Yes, my mind is growing weak as I approach my late 20s.
I meant the Serendip Belt.

I have but one great question about all that, btw. Was the Belt
a player-run world, and if so who was the lucky psycho ;-)

I've been doing some thinking (it's tough to get the smell of the
smoke out of my hair!) and came to the conclusion that there were
a number of races that have appeared in SF of varying levels of
plausibility that would make for potentially interesting
Traveller (any era). I've been thinking also about "translating"
some of these races into Traveller terms, and generating
"Contact-cum-Alien-Module" articles on them, or RICE Papers on
them and their planets. How would this be received on the list?
Can I get into trouble, either from GDW or the Authors (or their
estates) for doing it? Should I go ahead and do it? What races
would people like to see? (No guarantees. I'm not going to try
to convert a race that I'm not comfortably familiar with, or that
  I haven't read.)

  My list so far:

Fuzzy Sapiens, from H. Beam Piper's Fuzzy books, and the
                       "add-on/alternate" Fuzzy stories by William
                       Tuning and Ardath Mayhar.

Sime and Gen, from the series by Jacqueline Lichtenberg
                       and Jean Lorrah.

I'll be doing some spatial and temporal displacement to make them
fit into Traveller a little better, but I'll be keeping as much
of the physiology and cultural background as I can - obviously,
there's likely to be a strong need to "evolve" the cultures and
modify the history slightly, but what results should certainly be
  recognizable...

I'm planning to start a PBEM in Traveller: The New Era. I'm looking for
about 7 people to join. The campaign will be based in the Reformation
Coalition.

The group will be hired to man a Far Trader starship, and perform trade
or research missions in the Wilds.

The PBEM will have bi-weekly turns. I would like to talk with the players
on how they would prefer to handle turns (freeform or bulk mailing from
GM).

If you are interested plase send me a character, with description. Be
sure to include an physical description and details on his personailty.

If you wish to be a psionic, please contact me first.

(Gee, I knew I shouldn't have rushed that bit off....) I sit corrected.
Magyar was just the worst of the lot that I noticed. I agree about the
screwy X-boat routes, though. I seem to recall that a lot of them just
didn't seem to make an awful lot of sense. Luckily, Domain of Deneb,
and the Solomani Rim seemed to work pretty well, since most of us stayed
in those regions anyway.... At this point, the question is nearly moot. :(

Figure under 10 trillion for Solomani/Vilani population in -2422. In
1110 we have the entire Imperium at nearly 16 trillion, with the densely
settled Solomani maybe 21 to 22 trillion or so, and I think the Zhodani
are fairly sparse, maybe bringing the total to 25+ trillion, but surely
less than 30 trillion. (I'd have to look at Zho world generation to
make a better guess; DGP claimed about 2x density for Solomani cultural
regions, with average non-Solomani density at about 1.6 billion per
system, if everyone is spread evenly. I haven't checked this.)

Gosh, I wonder who could (and would) do such a thing...?

That's the problem with Grandfathers, they tend to wake up cranky.

Quick question for someone with GDW's _Solomani_:

I seem to remember that somewhere between classic and Mega- Traveller,
the founding date of the Imperium got changed from AD 4521 to AD 4518.
(AD 4521 was in at least _Twilight's Peak_ and Marc Miller's Dragon #87
article on Luna.) I seem to remember that _Solomani_ gave an exact
date (possibly to *month* and *day* for Holiday, year zero) for the
founding of the Imperium, and how the calendar worked relative to the
Solomani one. Anyone care to enlighten me? Thanks!

Traveller: The New Era Rules 'o' Life

History of the Traveller and The Traveller Universe:
Traveller is a space based science fiction role playing game
created back in 1978 by Games Designer Workshop (aka GDW). Traveller is
one of the first RPG out on the market, and may be the first sci-fi
based one. The original rules were a 5"x8" boxed set with 12 additional
supplements. These rules are known now as "Classic Traveller".
Classic Traveller is based in a setting called the Imperium. The
Imperium was a huge galactic empire covering over 11000 worlds and 700
parsecs. The major power in the Imperium was the Emperor, with
Archdukes controlling different areas for him. The Imperium was
divided into sectors (twenty of them), each of them about 32 parsecs by
40 parsecs in size. Each sector is divided in 16 sub-sectors (8 x 10
parsecs). Since the Imperium is so huge, most planets were govern in a
feudal based system of government.
The next edition of Traveller was called MegaTraveller (released
in 1987). MegaTraveller was based in the same universe but during a
galactic civil war. During the civil wars, billions died across the
Imperium. The civil wars ended when one of the warring faction created
and released a super weapon known as the Virus. The Virus is a computer
virus that can inhabit a computer and makes it a living thinking
machine. The behavior of these machines ranges from suicidal to
murderous. The virus was too effective and killed trillions across the
galaxy.
Traveller: The New Era is based in the Traveller universe 70+
years after the release of the virus. The Imperium is gone, and man is
trying to re-build his future in the stars. Traveller: The New Era uses
the GDW House System, and uses a cascade skill system.

Tech Levels of Traveller: The New Era & the campaign:
If you want to visualize the tech level used in Traveller. Think
somewhere in between the Aliens universe and the Star Wars Universe. In
the Traveller Universe there are the following limitation on technology
.

1. There is Faster than Light travel (FTL) in Traveller, but
nothing like Hyperspace is the Star Wars Universe or Warp Drive in Star
Trek. Traveller uses what are called Jump Ships. Jump Ship have the
ability to enter JumpSpace (duh!!!). How far a ship can traveller in
JumpSpace matters on the Jump Rating of the ship. For example, if a ship
has a Jump rating of 2, it can stay in JumpSpace for 2 parsecs. A jump,
no matter what the jump rating of the ship is, takes from 6-8days,
depending how good your navigator and pilot are.

2. There is no FTL communications.

3. Energy weapons exist, but they need battery back pack or belt packs.

"Space is a Cold, Hard Mistress" Unknown Scout

The Rules

1. All characters must have good concepts and must make sense. Please
avoid silly/stupid characters. Also make you characters as real as
possible, not just walking, talking killing machines.

2. Please no "Rules Lawyers".

3. All characters must be human or schalli (for now).

4. The game will start in the Old Expanses as part of the Reformation
Coalition.

5. Psionics are allowed. GM warning, the process to get psionics is a
hard and possibly deadly procedure.

6. Rules for cybernetics will be included in the Traveller Supplement
Fusion, Fire & Steel, but should be rare.
